Kuat, located in the Kuat sector in the most densely-populated section of the galaxy, is the location of the massive Kuat Drive Yards starship construction facility. Kuat Drive Yards, or KDY, is one of the Empire's primary producers of warships and manufactures the feared Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Due to the strategic importance of the Kuat Drive Yards, the Empire defended the Kuat system with as many as fifteen Star Destroyers at one time, and rigged the stardocks with explosives in case it was necessary to scuttle them. This planet was of prime importance to the New Order, for the shipyards there were among the first to align themselves with the Empire. The relationship blossomed, and the Kuat Drive Yards were made into the primary facility for the construction of Star Destroyers.

Along the defined perimeter of KDY some of the most advanced technological defenses are employed to protect this vital system from enemies of the Imperial Order. Dozens of gun emplacement and an incredibly vast mine field. Proper security codes must be relayed to the duty station and cross-checked by the security sub-routines before the perimeter is crossed or else the security systems will open fire on your vessel. Very few have ever survived such an attempt, and those that did survive were greeted by quite a swarm of TIE Advanced's and TIE Defenders. Despite these precautions, every facility in the secured sector still retains their self-destruction charges that can be activated as a last resort. The Imperial Order and the 8th Vampyre Fleet are adamant in seeing that they are never needed.

Serving as the primary work-horse of the Kuat Drive Yards, the standard Imperial Shipyard, with its massive size, can house construction for up to six Imperial Class Star Destroyers simulataneously. But the shipyards are not limited to ISD construction only. The versatility of these stations allows for the construction of any Imperial Capital ship needed, and when used in conjucntion with other, similar shipyards can build a Super Star Destroyer without any problem at all. With powerful shield generators, and an incredibly strong hull, the standard Ship Yard does not make itself an easy target for those who would attack it with snub fighters. The exact number of these facilites in the Kuat Drive Yards is highly classified information and will undoubtedly remain that way as long as the Imperial Order has anything to do with it. The Repair Yards at KDY serve just as vital a purpose as our many shipyards do.

As ships that were manufactured at KDY begin to wear out or are damaged in battle, they often return to KDY to undergo the neccessary repairs to become 100% operational again. While the design of these facilites is slightly dated, (originally designed to affect repairs on Victory Class Star Destroyers and lesser classes of ships) the ingenuity of our KDY engineers has allowed for modernization of these yards to accomodate any ship in the IO fleet, with the exception of our Command Ship, the SSD Executor II. The massive docking clamps along the starboard side of the repair yard house, numerous scanners and sensor packages to scan the hull surface and vital components of a docked ship to quickly determine what the problem is and how to most effectively repair it. While smaller than a standard shipyard, the repair yard is still a difficult target for coordinated snub fighters to destroy. A dense hull and powerful shields make the repair yard a formidible target.
